Interior Design Job Description
Do you like helping people make decisions? Do you have an artistic nature? This
is a terrific opportunity for a lifetime career in sales and interior design. As
an FCA interior design consultant you'll have daily opportunities to help customers
choose the best carpet, hardwood, tile and rugs for their particular needs. As you
grow, you'll learn the ins and outs of window treatment – custom blinds and shades
and also draperies. We'll also encourage you to learn furniture along the way. To
round out your design skills, you'll have the opportunity to learn kitchen and bath
design and even project management.
Position Benefits
At FCA you'll receive a base salary and benefits plus incentive compensation which
will enable you to earn up to 12% commission and salary on your sales. Some
of our designers are earning six figures annually. At FCA you'll earn as you learn
and practice.

Interior Design Job Training
On your first day at FCA, you'll be paired up with a senior designer who'll guide
you through 4 to 6 weeks of on-the-job training. During the training period you'll
work at our Shorewood location and you'll begin talking to customers right away.
As a practical matter, we realize that very few interior designers have expertise
in every category of sales and interior design, so we offer extensive training and
guidance in all aspects of home furnishings. At FCA you'll learn the art of consultative
selling; a set of skills which will benefit you for life. Finally, we encourage
all of our designers to pursue NKBA and other designer certification programs.
Interior Design Job Qualifications
This is a full time, career opportunity. To qualify, you should meet the following
minimum qualifications:
- be willing to work a few evenings each week, a couple of weekend days and some holidays.
Your schedule may be changed occasionally, but in general, you can count on knowing
well in advance when you are required to be on duty.
- have a valid driver's license with a good driving record. From time to time, you'll
provide your own transportation to and from customer's homes.
- have a minimum work experience of two (2) years or more success in consumer sales
- from working as a waitress to department store sales. Interior design experience
is preferred but not essential.
- have received a two (2) or four (4) year degree from an accredited college, university
or design institution. ASID, NKBA or related credentials are a definite plus.
